This book is not for advanced students. Rather it is suitable for people who want to revise the math they learned at school, or just to get some knowledge of the Math. It is an easy book to follow, not made too difficult like other math books. Problems are set after each section and the answers are, of course , given. It includes many sections of math, graphs,, indices, equations, inequalities and others. I would recommend it if you want to learn basic math, perhaps with the thought of further study , like myself. A knowledge of Math is a great help in understanding everyday problems one may meet.

I tried those Math Smart books and all they are based on practice, if you want to learn different methods & equations then this the right book. I purchased it because I want to get my Grade 12 math but its been a long time since being out go high school.

You get a very good introduction to all the very basic concepts of maths covering addition/subtraction, shapes, fractions, exponents, logarithms, trigonometry, algebra, statistics. The style of teaching is conversational so it’s easy to follow, it’s not dry either there is lots of contextual information to keep you interested.

Your learning is enhanced by worked examples then lots and lots of exercises and these re-inforce your knowledge.

The chapters are bite-sized and this allowed me to do around a chapter a day on my train commute. In fact I looked forward to my commute for a change.

Going through the book gave me the confidence to buy a book on Calculus, but I am finding that I need to go back and increase my knowledge in Algebra and Trigonometry to get through certain chapters of the Calculus book – for example trigonometry identities are not covered. But crucially, going through this book has given me the confidence to carry on. And in this latter respect this book is a marvel and has accomplished what no other book on maths has allowed me to do so far. I will be forever grateful to its brilliant authors.

The author knows which one is most helpful for readers. I also expect the second book for mathematics with the same author.

This book serves as a great refresher for someone who wants to re-learn the most fundamental/basic rules of maths such as Fractions or Algebra. Something that I struggle with still in my 30s. Yes, everything can be found online, BUT, this book is concise, easy to follow and to the point.

What I liked the most about this book is that at times it felt like an adventure to find information. I honestly couldn’t say anything bad about this book, also it has taught alot to do with maths.

The book is a good introduction into the world of mathematics

  15. paul houghton (verified owner) –

This book is very good if your learning mathermatics picks up from where you left off very good.

  16. A Reader (verified owner) –

This book starts by explaining place value, which is about as basic as you can get. It then covers a wide range of maths topics. I found the explanations clear enough, and there are plenty of exercises or problems to solve.
I’m mostly reading through it to remind myself of things that have become a bit hazy over the years. Mathematics is not part of my daily life, so the knowledge will never stick well, it’ll fade away again. But I’m happy to have an easy way to remind myself what maths is about.
If you’re looking for a broad introduction to basic maths, I certainly recommend this book.
I don’t recommend the Kindle version as some of it was more or less illegible on my ancient Kindle.
By the way, it has a pretty good index.

Self explanatory and practical. A useful resource tool.

Exactly what I was looking for
